Goal Farm Golf Club Local Rules

1.  Bunkers

Stones in bunkers are moveable obstructions (Rule 24.1 applies).

2. Ground Under Repair (GUR)

GUR comprises:   areas indicated by a sign or other markings

drainage holes and any damage caused by course maintenance

materials (or residue) piled for removal or for burning in situ

plugs filling old holes (only applies when the player's ball rests on the putting surface).

If a player's ball lies in an area of GUR from which play is prohibited or if such an area interferes with a player's stance or area of intended swing the player must take relief under Rule 25-1.

3.  Obstructions

Benches, fences around tees, signs, posts (excepting those defining “out of bounds), rakes and maintenance equipment are considered moveable obstructions (Rule 24-1 applies). Fixed sprinkler heads, litter bins, the pill box behind the 5 th green and the practise net are considered immovable obstructions (Rule 24-2 applies).

NB  Fences surrounding the house and gardens on the 1 st , 2 nd , 8 th and 9 th holes define out of bounds and relief is only allowable under penalty of one stroke.

4.  Out of Bounds

A ball is out of bounds if it comes to rest:

i. over hedges, fences or ditches enclosing the course, including those surrounding the house and gardens

ii. in the car park or on/over paths behind the 9 th green leading to the clubhouse, 1 st tee and house

iii. in the pond to the right of the 1 st and 2 nd holes

iv. beyond any line of white posts (e.g. to the left of the 7 th fairway).

5.  Paths

A ball coming to rest on any path, except those defined as “out of bounds”, may be lifted, cleaned and dropped without penalty within one club's length of the nearest point of relief, not nearer the hole.

6.  Staked trees

If a staked tree interferes with a player's stance or area of intended swing, the ball must be lifted and dropped without penalty in accordance with the procedure prescribed in Rule 24-2b (i) (Immovable Obstruction). The ball may be cleaned when so lifted.

7.  Water Hazards

Water hazards are marked with yellow posts and include the pond on the 6 th hole (Rule 26-1 (a) & (b) applies. Lateral    hazards are marked with red posts and include the ditch along the right of the 5 th fairway (Rule 26-1(a), (b) & (c) applies).

The wooden sleepers in the ditch crossing the 2 nd hole are an integral part of the hazard.

8.  Aeration Holes

If a ball comes to rest in an aeration hole on a putting green, the player may, without penalty, place the ball at the nearest   spot not nearer the hole, which avoids such situation.

9. Putting surfaces

A ball coming to rest on the putting surface of any hole other than the one in play must be lifted and dropped at the nearest   point of relief, not nearer the hole in play. This rule also applies to the practise area, including the bunker.

10. Plugged Balls

A ball plugged/imbedded in its own pitch mark through the green may be lifted, cleaned and dropped without penalty as near as possible to where it originally lay but no nearer the hole and not in a hazard or on a putting green.

11. Bunkers out of play

When a bunker is out of play, relief must be taken as follows:- the ball has to be dropped outside the bunker keeping the point where the ball lay directly between the hole and the spot on which the ball is dropped and within two club lengths of the nearest point of relief. There is no penalty for taking such relief.

12. Winter Rules

i. A ball lying on a closely mown area may, without penalty, be lifted, cleaned and placed within six inches of where it originally lay but not nearer the hole and not in a hazard or on a putting green.

ii. A ball lying through the green but not on a closely mown area or within the limits of a hazard may, without penalty, be lifted, cleaned and dropped as near as possible to where it originally lay but not nearer the hole and not into a hazard or onto a putting green.

iii. A player may move or place the ball once and after the ball has been so moved or placed it is in play.
